GED
Some ghosts refuse to be buried. Growing up in Glasgow's Southside in the 1970s and 80s, Ged Geraghty learns that survival comes at a cost. In a home scarred by addiction and violence, Mammy struggles to cope while Faither disappears deeper into alcoholism and rage.
But Ged's greatest fear isn't the chaos around him — it's becoming the man he hates. As he battles temptation and self-destruction, a death changes everything, and an unexpected mentor offers a way out: education, opportunity and the chance to escape. Yet the past holds tight. Will Ged return to the world he knows, or take the Magic Bus to Greece and risk the frightening freedom of an unknown future?
GED is a raw and unflinching coming-of-age novel, where survival and identity collide with poverty, violence, addiction and sectarianism. Often brutal, but ultimately hopeful, this story of resilience, family and redemption asks one inescapable question: can you ever break free from the past?
